(It's a shame that we have to use the same word for inter-personal, social relationship building and for connecting devices to communicate with each other. This idea regards the first sense.)
At another conference, I noticed that the common eating area tables all had a little sign relating to some specific topic. The idea is that you choose the group you sit and eat with based on this shared interest. I'm thinking for SW that we might gather around specific industries, or around general topics, such as virtualization, malware defense, etc. Maybe even put in a table or two for bacon or heavy metal.
It seemed so obvious and clear, I wondered why we hadn't done it at SW.
